Cumbemayo Archaeological Complex
Cumbe Mayo is located 20 km from the city of Cajamarca, approximately 3400 meters above sea level and 1-hour bus ride. The name Cumbe Mayo may come from the Quechua word meaning kunpi mayu "the channel well done" or hunpi May that means "river thin (fine)". Cumbe Mayo is surrounded by a fantastic stone forest, which seems to reproduce the shape of pious monks as they are familiarly known as "Friars". (see photo gallery)
